Steve Watson

Director, Steve Watson & Partners

With 35 years experience in construction and building regulations, Steve is responsible for leading a national team of building regulations and certification consultants.

Steve started his career in local government, working to develop both prescriptive and performance-based building code solutions. He then developed his flair for fire and smoke modelling techniques while working for the CSIRO, before heading into the private sector as a Director of Stephen Grubits & Associates in 1996.

 

He branched off to found Steve Watson & Partners in 2003, and in so doing has become one of the most respected code compliance professionals in the country. Under his guidance, SWP has since grown to become one of the pre-eminent certification and building code consultancies in Australia.

 

Presentation topic: 2023 Issues and Resolutions from the AAC 2-9 Technical Committee

The AAC Class 2-9  Technical Committee has convened during the year to discuss and provide guidance on the the interpretive issues that certifiers confront. 

 

Our Committee Chairman, Steve, is set to present a summary of issues the committee engaged with, along with the items where resolutions has been achieved. 

 

Joshua Palmer

Partner, Pikes & Verekers Lawyers 

Joshua has extensive experience in local government, planning and environmental law, regularly acting and appearing for local government, private developers and accredited certifiers in Classes 1 and 4 of the Land and Environment Court’s jurisdiction.

 

Despite revelling in the thrill of litigation, Joshua appreciates that for clients, litigation is something best avoided where possible and finds no greater satisfaction than providing the right advice at the right time to satisfy potential opponents, avoiding conflict and achieving beneficial outcomes for all concerned.

 

Joshua is an excellent communicator, regularly advising on a wide array of environmental and planning matters from construction and interpretation of planning instruments and Development Control Plans, existing use rights, development contributions, construction of development consents, commencement of development and the matters upon which certifiers must be satisfied before issuing certificates.

Joshua Palmer will provide a recap of common legal trips & traps for certifiers in 2023, and recommendations.

- Full amount will be refunded when registration is cancelled up to seven (7) working days prior to seminar.
- If no cancellation notice is received or cancellation is made less than seven (7) working days prior to seminar, no refund will be provided without a doctor's certificate.
- Transfer or substitution of registration is accepted however charges may apply (max for webinar $35).
